I Made It: A Poem of Healing and Resilience

This poem was born out of a moment of deep hurt and vulnerability, when I found myself desperately seeking help from someone close to me, only to be rejected. In that time of pain, I needed reassurance (a lifeline), but instead, I was left to face my struggles alone.

“I Made It” became a powerful reminder to myself of my own inner strength—the strength that I hadn’t fully realized I possessed at the time. It’s a testament to the journey of emotional survival, where I start out feeling like I’m drowning, needing someone else to save me. But gradually, I recognize that I can save myself.

The poem is a reflection of the healing process: from pain to self-reliance to eventual pride in overcoming adversity. It was my way of telling myself that, one day, I would be strong enough to stand on my own two feet, without needing someone else to be my source of strength.

*I Made It*

One day I won’t ask you to save me from drowning
I may sink and gasp for breath
But I will learn to float until I swim
I will swim to shore and build my own castle
And I will be queen
And you will see my reign
One day I won’t ask you to save me from dying
I may gasp for my last breath
But then I will find the strength
And I will pull myself from the brink of death
And I will rise
And you will see me shining
And you will look on in awe
And you will wonder how I did it
And I will feel pride in knowing
That through my own strength I made it

Closing Thoughts

Writing this poem was a turning point for me. It was an act of reclaiming my power and reminding myself that, even in the face of rejection and pain, I had the strength to persevere. I no longer needed to beg for someone else’s help or approval to find my way.

The poem gave me hope—hope that one day, I would stop feeling like I was always drowning and that I would be able to rise on my own. It’s a reminder that while we may face moments of great difficulty, we have the power to rise above them.

We all have that inner strength waiting to be tapped into, and when we find it, we will realize that we don’t need anyone to rescue us. We are capable of shining, even in our darkest moments. And when we do, we can look back and feel pride in knowing we made it on our own.
