What if the rain you dread is the very thing sent to help you grow?
In our rush to get everything done, we often overlook the sacred gift of stillness.
I wrote this poem on a morning when my routine was interrupted by rain—an unwelcomed pause in my tightly planned day. I was frustrated at first, but as I sat in the quiet and listened to the gentle rhythm of the raindrops, I felt God whispering something deeper.
This poem, The Rain Has Come, is a reminder that interruptions aren’t always setbacks. Sometimes, they’re sacred invitations to slow down, to reflect, and to be present with ourselves and with God. Listen to the poem here.
The Rain Has Come
The rain has come
But why has it come?
I would much rather experience a bright and sunny day
The rain has come
But why has it come?
It interferes with my plan and gets in my way
The rain has come
But why has it come?
I sit and ponder, then I ask the rain
Rain you have come
But why have you come?
Here is what the rain had to say:
I am not appreciated because I interfere with your plans
But without my presence, who waters your land?
In the absence of my presence, do you ever sit and ponder?
Or are you always busy going here, going there as your feet and mind wander?
When I am not here, do you ever sit in the silence
To experience the peace and calm that comes with stillness?
Don’t you see that I bring water to quench your thirst? No…
You don’t appreciate the stillness that allows you to grow
I am here to water your crops
Now sit, be still, and listen to the raindrops
Smell the earth as it is watered a new
Notice the growth, the changes in you
So the rain has come that I may learn to be still
So I may be in His presence and be watered in God’s will
Final Thoughts
Friend, I don’t know what kind of rain is falling in your life right now, but I encourage you—don’t rush it away. What if this stillness, this pause, this unplanned moment is exactly what your soul needs to grow? Take a breath. Be still. Let the rain do its work. You are being watered. You are being renewed. Let the rain remind you: growth often happens in the quiet. Embrace it.
