California King Bed: A Poem on Lost Connection

2–3 minutes

read

There’s a unique kind of loneliness that comes from being near someone yet feeling miles apart. It doesn’t happen all at once—it creeps in slowly, unnoticed, until one day you realize the warmth is gone. This poem, that comes from personal experience, reflects that quiet heartbreak—the moment you look at the person you love and wonder, When did we drift so far apart?

California King Bed

In the same place
Yet so far apart
No longer able to hear
The beating of our hearts
When did we stop breathing?
When did we die?
When did a canyon form between you and I?
We share the same bed
But we don’t touch
In this California King bed
Oh… I miss you so much
I miss the warmth of you body
Pressed up against mine
I miss you holding me
While we lose track of time
I miss those moments…
That lasted forever
I miss those moments when…
We were actually together
Back when I was yours and you were mine
Back when in my arms was where you wanted to spend your free time
Now we share the same space
But hardly see each other
We’re in each other’s line of vision
But barely look at one another
I miss you, I miss us, I miss you and me
I miss when I shared everything with you
And you with me
When we were each other’s best friend
When we were each other’s entertainment
When we were each other’s rock
Each other’s everything
Practically one in the same
Down to our very breathing
But the distance between us have been so wide for so long
Tell me what’s missing
Tell me what’s wrong
Is it still possible to close the gap?
To build a bridge to save us
To save what we had?
Because I miss you
Like I said
Unless you’re comfortable in this California King bed

Closing Thoughts

Distance in a relationship isn’t always measured in miles. Sometimes, it’s in the silences, the unspoken words, the missing touches. But does it have to stay that way? Can the gap be bridged? Love doesn’t just disappear—it fades when left unattended. The question is, are both people willing to fight for it?

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this one. Share your thoughts with me in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
